Passkeys are set to replace traditional passwords as the primary way we log into our online accounts, offering improved security and protection against cyber criminals. The technology has been supported by the FIDO alliance, a group of big tech companies including Apple, Google, and Microsoft, with the goal of eventually eliminating passwords completely.
Passkeys work by creating and storing credentials on your phone that can only be accessed by you through biometric authentication, such as a fingerprint or facial recognition. As more password management software companies adopt passkeys, the technology is likely to become more widespread and eventually replace traditional passwords altogether.
After years of using strong passwords, will we miss them when they are gone? Probably not.
